A new alpha release of MPICH, 5.1.0a1, is now available for download at https://www.mpich.org/downloads/.
This release features a stand-alone Fortran binding. The Fortran binding is now separated from the C library and can be built on its own against any MPI implementation that is compatible with the MPI 5 ABI.
We expect pure C and pure Fortran applications to continue to work without change.
C code that uses MPI_Fint or the f2c/c2f conversion APIs (for example, MPI_Comm_f2c and MPI_Comm_c2f) does need a change in how it is built. Compile and link such code with the -mpi-fortran option:
mpicc -mpi-fortran -o myapp myapp.c
The option pulls in mpi_fortran.h and links with -lmpifort in addition
to -lmpi.
A full list of changes is in the CHANGES file: https://github.com/pmodels/mpich/blob/v5.1.0a1/CHANGES
This is an alpha release intended for early testing, and it is not recommended for production use. Please try it with your applications, especially mixed C and Fortran codes, and report any problems at https://github.com/pmodels/mpich/issues or on [email protected].
Regards,
The MPICH Team
